Roman Military Standards
Military Standards were used by the members of the Roman Legion to emphasize their importance and distinguish themselves from other soldiers of the military. The Standards were thought to represent the soul and spirit of the Legion, thus were treated with the utmost care. There were three main styles, Vexilla (banners) , Signa, and other Standards, which were all used to rally the troops, and to identify different parts of the unit. They also had designated holders for each of these Signa, Vexilla, and Standards. The specific names of these different Standards were: The Aquila, The Vexillum, The Manus (which was a Signa), The Imago and The Draco.
